Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg. Spielzeit 2026/27
Für die neue Spielzeit des Deutschen Schauspielhauses haben wir bereits zum zehnten Mal die Gestaltung übernommen. Diesmal führen die Stücke unter anderem zu den Argonauten, zu Medea an verschiedene Orte und in andere unbekannte Welten. Genau dort setzt auch unsere Bildsprache an: auf fremden Planeten, mitten im Unbekannten.
Gearbeitet haben wir dabei mit einer altbewährten Methode: händischen Collagen. KI kam nur punktuell zum Einsatz, etwa für fiktive Bücher, aus denen wir Material ausgeschnitten und mit Fundstücken aus unserem Flohmarktfundus kombiniert haben. Dazu kamen alte Zeitschriften, noch ältere Bücher und jede Menge weiteres analoges Material.
Das Weltall entstand gespritzt mit der Zahnbürste, die farbigen Nebel mit Sprühfarbe. So ist nach und nach ein Kosmos aus über 50 Figuren sowie mehr als 30 Landschaften und Objekten entstanden. Wer weiter nach unten scrollt, findet außerdem ein paar Making-of-Bilder.
Im nächsten Schritt haben wir die Motive in After Effects animiert und die Figuren mithilfe von KI ins Greenscreen-Studio gebracht. Gerade diese Verbindung aus neuer Technologie und alter Handarbeit macht die Arbeit für uns spannend. Aus der Kombination von analog und digital ist so etwas Eigenes, Neues entstanden.

For the new season of Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, we were once again responsible for the visual design — for the tenth time already. This time, the productions take audiences to the Argonauts, to Medea in different places, and into other unknown worlds. That is exactly where our visual language begins: on distant planets, right in the middle of the unknown.
We worked with a time-tested method: handmade collages. AI was used only selectively, for example to create fictional books from which we cut material and combined it with finds from our flea-market archive. We also used old magazines, even older books, and plenty of other analogue material.
Outer space was created by splattering paint with a toothbrush, while the colorful nebulae were made with spray paint. Little by little, this resulted in a cosmos of more than 50 figures as well as over 30 landscapes and objects. If you scroll further down, you will also find a few making-of images.
In the next step, we animated the motifs in After Effects and used AI to bring the figures into a green-screen studio. It is precisely this connection between new technology and traditional handcraft that makes the work exciting for us. Out of the combination of analogue and digital, something original and entirely new emerged.
